I had the pleasure of meeting this brave, technophile, triathlete, the extremely cool Zack Belcher! Check out his story and hear how he came to join the Digibee team as Digital Architect.
Why Digibee?
Throughout his career, Zack had experienced the tech industry from both the start-up and the large corporation perspective. When he began searching for new opportunities, he was looking to return to the start-up environment and work on something that was both fun and inspiring again. At the same time, he also wanted to be customer-facing, and he believed the Digital Architect role would provide him with the perfect opportunity to do so.
With a background in network application management and monitoring, Zack had already done a lot of integrations and used similar tools to Digibee’s eiPaaS. But, he found those tools had one purpose or could solve one use-case. What set Digibee’s platform apart was its ability to connect tools for any purpose, making it much more versatile and useful. Zack was excited about the potential of Digibee’s technology and knew that he could leverage his expertise while also expanding his skills. He knew he was taking a chance on both himself and the company. Now, almost a year later, he is confident that it was a risk worth taking.
Life at Digibee
One of the main reasons Zack decided to return to a start-up was for the impact he could make. In large corporations, you can get lost, feeling like just another cog in the machine, but at a start-up, there are plenty of opportunities to have a significant impact. Zack said he “loves the problem-solving aspect of the work and making a real difference for customers, to someone’s job, or to his team.” He finds working with customers and engineers to be incredibly rewarding, whether it’s as simple as giving a powerful demo or as impactful as building a solution that meets a customer’s specific needs.
One of the biggest challenges Zack faces is adapting to the incredible versatility of Digibee’s platform. Because the technology is so broad, Zack needs to be as flexible as possible to understand the wide variety of problems and use-cases that each customer presents. While there are certainly commonalities he can leverage, many of the integration solutions are unique to each customer. This requires Zack to have a deep understanding of the technology, as well as the ability to think creatively and come up with innovative solutions. Despite the challenges, Zack is enjoying the opportunity to grow his technical understanding and skills, and embracing his own agility to coincide with what the platform can offer.
Zack is a coach at heart (and in reality too, he coached high school lacrosse). He brings this skill to his work at Digibee. He enjoys collaborating with a team, mentoring, giving energy to ideas, and the instructional aspect of breaking concepts down in a way people can understand. He’s also always eager to help or guide others, especially new employees.
The Future Ahead
What drew Zack to Digibee is exactly what excites him about the future. He sees the potential for rapid, incremental growth at Digibee, something that he wouldn’t have been able to experience at a larger corporation. Zack said, he is “here for the dream. To see Digibee be the next big thing, and be able to say I was part of making that happen.” He is invested in the opportunity to help Digibee make a discernible impact on the integration space, and being able to look back in a few years and see how far the company has come.
“I’m here for the dream. To see Digibee be the next big thing, and be able to say I was part of making that happen.”
Balancing Work & Life at Digibee
Zack and I have a VERY different idea of what to do in one’s “spare time.” While I’m sitting on my couch reading a fantasy novel, he’s out training for two marathons and/or triathlons a year (though he enjoys reading as well)! Zack is constantly challenging himself through many endurance sports, including racing, running, cycling, and swimming. (I’m fascinated by anyone who enjoys running – and Zack gave me quite a few great tips I’m certain I’ll never use.) His interest in running started just a few years ago and he began training with some of his friends. More recently, he convinced his wife to join in as well, joking how “she’s already better at it” than he is. He also enjoys traveling to mountain areas and national parks to hike with his wife. He hopes to do more of that in the near future.A true techie at heart, Zack is passionate about all things technological. He’s into gaming, researching technology trends, and building computers. Being married to a developer myself, these are hobbies I’m a lot more familiar with.
It’s truly exciting for me to talk to incredible “Digibees” like Zack each month and hear about their different interests and journeys.
